System of a Down photoshoot
Here are the pics I took at their MTV2 concert at Webster Hall on the 22nd:

The rest of the pics are here:

The concert was absolute pandemonium. They stuck me and another photographer at the front of the crowd, but there was no photo pit, so they literally stuck us at the front of the mosh pit (by the side of the gate that's between the band and the crowd). The photographer next to me periodically got taken out by crowd surfers, and the bouncers kept tossing rowdy people at us that they were pulling out of the mosh/surfing crowd. Since I was taking photos and not paying the closest attention to the people moshing right behind us, I wasn't too surprised to find the few battle scars I ended up getting out of it.

The MTV2 vj (I don't even know who this guy is) was trying to get the crowd pumped up before the show, but the crowd was screaming so many obscenities at him to get off the stage, that he eventually lost it and started screaming obscenities back at the crowd and flipping people off. That was pretty fun to watch.

Jet gallery
Shot on Staten Island, which is the only spot in all of New York City big enough for such concerts.

The concert space had to double-up with a freakin' bank. Man, we're packed in like sardines in this city.

Wouldn't have it any other way, though.

Jimmy Eat World pics
The other photographers were commenting on how awful the lighting conditions were for Jimmy Eat World, although we've all had to deal with much worse, I'd wager.

Taproot gallery
Trying to catch up on this backlog of photos that have been clogging my camera's memory discs. I'm going to try to get my pics up of Jimmy Eat World (not that anyone cares about Jimmy Eat World, shrug) and Mike Doughty of Soul Coughing as soon as I can.

Here's Taproot, trying to go meaningful acoustic (don't ask how it sounded, shudder).

Green Day pics
Covering the Green Day concert at Giants Stadium was a lot of fun, although I just recently returned the Canon 70-200mm 2.8 lens I got, so all I had was the default kit lens. I gave it all I could with that little lens, though:

The Futureheads
Today's image gallery is The Futureheads. This shoot was plagued by erratic lighting; the studio we shot in had a skylight, and whenever the sun peeked out from behind the clouds, the studio became flooded with light (overpowering the dinky indoor lights), and our white balance went cuckoo. But these shots hopefully weren't too bad, considering.

The whole gallery is here. Enjoy!

Here's the British band Ash. Oddly enough, the singer (straight from England) was convinced he met me before. I didn't think I was the type to be confused easily with others, but maybe there are droves of 6'1" skinny Asians with long hair and shop glasses roaming the British countryside.

If you like Ash, the rest of the image gallery is here.

I've decided to use this LJ account for band photos I take. Here are The Kills; the images will accompany the live performance videos next week:

my friend noah pointed this out. Google has a number range search feature.

Search for "visa 4350000000000000..4359999999999999" and hope your credit card number isn't in that range.

Guess I should be glad I'm an old man:

Yup, our fearless leaders are gallantly drafting young people to fight for them as early as Spring 2005. Nice knowing you all.

I ran the Brooklyn half marathon at 8am on Saturday. Apparently I ran 10 minute 42 second miles, which I guess isn't bad for not training properly. Right after the run, I went to Port Authority to take the train up to Clay's bachelor party, which was a hike through the Appalachian mountains. So I ran the half marathon, and went hiking in the Appalachian mountains right afterwards. I won't be doing that again.

Clay told me not to bring any food with me, because he'd have that taken care of. But it turns out the food he brought was mainly sausage, Polish sausage, sardines, and oysters. So after my 13.1 mile run and camping in the woods, I basically had a couple bagels, some oatmeal and a few plain noodles in water, and some candy (like half of a three musketeer bar we split up, that eventually made me ill). Interestingly enough, Clay was also the one to convince us to run the Brooklyn half-marathon, and then he cancelled on us the night before the half-marathon, so he kept a fresh, furious pace through the mountains while my knees were in agony; I took 15 ibuprofin pills those two days.

After we emerged from the woods on Sunday, we were filthy from the mountains, the rain, the mud, etc., and we were dressed in smelly, dirty, wet hiking clothes. We went to the most upscale Japanese restaurant I've ever seen (where every car was a BMW or other ultra-expensive car, and most people were dressed in their best outfits) and I saw actor Danny Aiello in the beamer next to me before the valets took our car. We sent in the only one of us who was wearing long sleeves and pants to try and get a table. Once we got a table, we all poured in and dropped about $40 each to gorge ourselves (no booze, just food). I got into Manhattan around 9pm last night, got home around 10pm, and slept like a rock.

I came back to find that a couple of my friends have email bombed me along with leaving cell phone messages while I was in the mountains. Back to the digital world.

Today, I went to brunch with some friends whose wedding I'll be attending in May. The brunch place was called Pastis. Pretty trendy place; we saw Courtney Love and Michael Stipe (singer of REM) there. Then I ran about 7 miles with a friend who convinced me to run the Brooklyn half marathon at the end of April (not exactly sure how he did that). Took a bunch of pictures at the Chelsea market (a place with an indoor well, the water coming out of a huge pipe coming out of the ceiling). Pics aren't online, though, since my roommate is still in the process of installing a new harddrive.

Too busy to think these days.

East Asian, baby! We know how to party with style and dignity! Was out after 4am that night. We went to the Black Door bar that night, and then shared wine and pringles on Joon's rooftop.

Here are the rest of those pics:
